Welcome to Super Animal Royale Wiki![]

If you are here, it means that you have shown interest in contributing to the wiki. That's great! We welcome you with our open paws (or other equivalent, depending on species). The wiki is developed by the most dedicated community members who want to help others learn everything about the game.

This place, like any other has some rules, but do not fret, there are only a few of them and they are pretty short.

Editing the wiki isn't too difficult but at times you will find yourself lost, if this happens feel free to reach out to other wiki animals. Wiki work is mostly coordinated on the official Super Animal Royale Discord server in the #wiki channel and thus you can find most of us there.

Basics of editing[]

If you're new to wiki editing, you can visit the Fandom Guide on editing and the MediaWiki guide to formatting. This will introduce you to the basic tools required for editing.

As they say on Wikipedia - be bold and edit! If you see a mistake on a page, or feel like something is missing, don't be afraid to contribute. Wiki keeps track of contributions, so in worst case you can undo changes very easily.

Wiki specific help[]

Templates[]

This wiki, like many other wikis, makes heavy use of templates. Templates are very useful tools that help us display information such as weapon sprites and game items easily and in a consistent manner. For example, we can use the Weapon template to display an image and a link to the weapon's page: {{Weapon|AK|rarity=rare}} results in the output Gun-ak grey AK.

Templates may look confusing at first, but don't worry, they're actually very easy to use. For an introduction, refer to the Fandom Templates guide. To learn more about a specific template, visit the templates documentation page, which can be found on the same page as the template. For instance, to learn more about the Weapon template, visit Template:Weapon. You can find a list of templates frequently used on Super Animal Royale Wiki at Help:Templates.

Item data[]

All of our item data resides in Module:ItemList! Weapons, guns, emotes, animals etc. A single page holds information on their name, file name associated with items, their rarity and description. Basically that's our central metadata collection place for items. It isn't the most newbie friendly place on the wiki. Syntax and sheer size of that page may make you feel overwhelmed. However if you are interested in modifying item data, or adding items to the wiki this is the place to do it.

While you could do it manually, finding items with browser included find tool (Ctrl+F) and modifying lua table directly, you could as well use custom tool to do it. Choice is yours!

Language wikis[]

SAWorldwideWiki

If you speak other languages alongside English, it is very likely that your contributions would be very helpful in one of the language wikis! Currently Super Animal Royale wiki is available in Chinese, German, Russian and Spanish. If your native language isn't in that list you can create a new wiki, but beware creating a wiki from scratch is not an easy process and you will hit many roadblocks on the way. However you can always ask around people who have done it in the past, on the Discord.

If you would like to help with the translation, it is helpful to contact a translator for Super Animal Royale as the in-game localization is changing constantly. They can help you with questions about item names or other translations. You can find them through their Translator role in the official Discord. Some are also in the wiki chat. Don't be afraid to ask, we are just Super Animals too. If you spend some time translating the wiki and would also like to help to translate the game, you can contact CaptainBob#0420 and apply.

If you would like to create a new language wiki, we recommend that you first contact other wiki contributors or chat with us on official SAR Discord server in a wiki channel. We'll help you set everything up there, including interwiki links between the different language wikis, shared media repository, and anything else "behind the scenes" like templates or modules and give you some tips. We will also answer any questions you might have there. This may sound like a lot at first, but together we can get everything up and running relatively quickly. A new language wiki does not necessarily have to be massive; translating some important pages is also helpful.

Where to start?[]

Wikis are never complete. No matter how much we do, there always will be something to improve upon. Finding places that need your contributions is actually pretty easy. We use various templates to mark some kind of pages as ones that require improvement, for example Category:Stubs lists pages, which are small and could use more content, that's a great place to start your wiki editing. You can find other categories of pages and files needing improvements in Category:Wiki maintenance. It's best to start with small things, familiarize yourself with tools and working in collaborative environment. If you fancy yourself involving yourself even further, check out Community portal where you'll find currently discussed topics. Those often revolve around moving pages to new names or changing wiki standards, your voice in those topics is very important to keep wiki best for everyone!

Tips[]

Editing[]

  • Majority of content on the wiki (this welcome page excluded) uses "formal tone". Avoid slang, colloquialisms or jargon, try to write it in a way that an average English reader will understand.
  • One of the most repeated mistakes involves writing content in first (we have to defeat the opposing team) or second person (your goal is to defeat the opposing team), instead write player's goal is to defeat the opposing team.
  • When adding any kind of information, make sure it's correct. Do not add speculations or theories, wiki is supposed to inform the reader about current and factual state of the game. If you are adding information that cannot be verified in-game (especially anything involving announced but not released content), make sure you attach a citation so readers can verify information by themselves.

When creating a new article[]

  • When you create a new article, try to add as much content as you can. Shorter articles are discouraged.
  • Remember about splitting content into sections and if you don't know how to create one, refer to tools above the text editing window, they can help you make an article formatted and thus easier to read.
