Melee weapon is always a part of a Super Animal's inventory. It requires no ammunition to use, provides the fastest on-foot movement speed when equipped, and can cut 
Tall Grass, slash 
Crates and 
Pots to potentially reveal pickups. Each successful hit to an enemy will remove one point of 
Armor, or deal 33 damage to Super Animals without armor. Melee attacks also have penetration, and thus bypass 50% of armor (or 16.5 damage).
The default inputs to switch to the melee weapon is 1234PC

Zombie Joes do not have a visible Melee weapon, instead they use claws that have 10% (rounded down) piercing damage.

Notes[]
- The movement speed of an animal is higher with a melee weapon than with any other weapon equipped.
- The melee attack can be heard from 110 SAU away.
- The Mop has been introduced during the Console Trailer known as "The Modest Melee Mop".
Patch Notes[]
- Melee weapon up and down swings have been adjusted to occur within 40 degrees of north and south aim (up from 30 degrees).
- Melee weapon has been revamped completely, with slightly slower attacking overall, directional swinging, buffed movement speed whilst swinging[needs citation], and has a combination of 3 strikes that culminates in a wider radius.
- Melee weapon now deals 50% damage through armor and temporarily slows the attacker by 80% when swung.
