Emotes are customizations allowing animals to perform recognizable taunts/dances by pressing the Emote key (default VPC PS Xbox/Switch Joy-Con). Some emotes are "traversal" emotes which allow the player to move while using them, while others require the player to stand still and are cancelled when the player moves.

Emotes can also be used within the main menu, where everyone in the same party will see your animal perform the emote. When performing certain emotes, Mini Animal Pets will dance along to the beat of the music.

Emote Wheel[]

Emote Wheel Example

Selecting an emote from the Emote Wheel.

Players can equip up to 8 emotes within the inventory screen into slots on the first page of the player's Emote Wheel. The rest of the emotes that the player owns will be available on the other pages of the Emote Wheel.

With a keyboard and mouse, the emote wheel can be scrolled with the mouse wheel. To select an emote from the Emote Wheel, hold the Emote key, put your cursor over any emote and release the key. Pressing the Emote key once allows to perform the last selected emote (or the first emote on the emote wheel, if no emote has been performed yet).

On a console or on a controller on PC, after pressing the Emote key, use the right stick to select an emote (or center it to cancel). Use Xbox, Playstation, Switch to scroll the emote wheel right and / Xbox, / playstation or / switch to scroll the emote wheel left.

Trivia[]

  • The "Default Dance" emote originally named "Basic Dance" during Super Beta.
    • The "Simple Wave" emote originally named "Rock N' Roll" during Super Beta.
      • Due the complains from the community about the rarity of The "Simple Wave". Pixile decided to make it obtainable as the Milestone Reward in Version 1.9.1. Before that, it was obtainable as a random Level-Up reward.
  • The "PBJT" emote is a reference to the old meme, Peanut Butter Jelly Time.
  • The chord progression in "Tap Dance" emote music is inspired by Buck Fever Rag.[1]
  • The "Hungry", "Point", "T-pose", "Plush", and "Slow Jam" and "Hot Coffee" emotes are the only emotes that allow movement whenever they are being used.
    • Originally, the "Point" emote didn't have an arrow, but Pixile later added it to prevent any misused act of using this emote.
  • The "CRISPRmas Carol" emote music is both a reference to and was also used in SART S02E02 How the Finch Stole CRISPRmas.
  • The Clipboard color from the "Clipboard" emote is different from the one that  Dr. Jennifer Dogna uses.
  • The Slow Jam emote features a guitar acoustic version of Pete's Song. Pete's Song is also played in the game credits.
  • In Version 1.9, The "Laughing" emote and sound has been readjusted to fit the tone of the game better and be used more generally. [tl;dr less being annoying to another players] Old sound of the emote: File:Dance Laugh.wav
  • The sound of the Sip emote was created by Catbaux sipping water.[2]
    • The Sip emote also the most requested emote to be added by the community since the popular :marten_sip: emote from the community Discord. (Expect some Pine Marten squads with Sip Emote)
  • The "Hound Dog" emote features an instrumental version of Hound Dog's song based on this video, composed by Catbaux.
  • The "Coconut Canter" emote is a reference from the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Patch Notes[]

v1.8

  • Emotes can now be used while sliding on ice.

  1. "btw this is out of nowhere but on the Emotes page trivia
    > The "Tap Dance" emote music is inspired by Maple Leaf Rag.
this isn't true actually. The chord progression was inspired by Buck Fever Rag, a song that I've performed a lot with my mom who was a stepdancer. But the chord progression is pretty common in ragtime music, Maple Leaf Rag is just the most popular one" ~ Catbaux in https://discord.com/channels/413200888010637313/534947475468058625/1085255211850932254
