In the game lore, Super Animals were first created by human researchers during the construction of [[Super Animal World]] at [[S.A.W. Research Labs]]. The discovery of Superite on Super Animal Island, a mineral that glows pink, was an important milestone in the creation of Super Animals. Superite has an important utility, perhaps as a catalyst, in [[wikipedia:CRISPR gene editing|CRISPR]], that enabled the first Super Animals to be made using this process. 

The first successful Super Animal was {{Character|The First Skullcat}}. Unfortunately, it looked, in the words of {{Character|Dr. Jennifer Dogna}}, rather "ruff" (rough). This made the humans hide it out in [[Super Saharaland]], as a kind of horror show. Skullcats ended up being unexpectedly popular, and taught the scientists that they did not have to limit themselves to creating real animals, and could make stuff up. The humans themed the park they were building after the Super Animals, turning it into a sort of safari park with the Super Animals as the central attraction.

Today, the Labs are still operating, creating new Super Animal breeds, despite the departure of the humans during "[[The Incident]]".

Super Animals speak the language '''Super Animalish''', or '''Animalish''' for short. Although few words from this language have known meanings, one notable word with a known meaning is "wabada", which means "kill".<ref>{{Cite discord|Jake|https://discord.com/channels/413200888010637313/1006701452678418472/1080213388438818959|just to be clear, their language is definitely called Super Animalish or Animalish}}</ref>

Although every Super Animal is a genetic clone, genetic anomalies do happen. This was more common in the early days of Super Animal World, and many canonical Super Animals date from back then. For instance, {{Character|Donk Patrick}} has a genetic anomaly that allows him to communicate somewhat clearly in human language and [[Non Player Character (NPC)#Twinkle|Twinkle]] has a genetic anomaly that caused them to be oversized. 

Super Animals have no biological sex, meaning that they don’t have a certain type of love interest, although they can take on gender identities. 

Most Super Animals are genetically engineered to have a height of 5 feet 2 and 3/4 inches (1.59m) and very few animals (such as {{Character|Peep}}) deviate from this standard.<ref name=":0">[https://clips.twitch.tv/OilyColdbloodedAdminFUNgineer-_mrOY0zfos2iQTjP Ruben in Pixile Plays, 10 February 2023, 00:14:00]</ref>
